Rideshare Insurance
Extra protection and peace of mind for rideshare drivers
Quote rideshare coverage before driving for a ridesharing service
If you plan to operate on Uber, Lyft or any ridesharing platform as a driver, it's easy to get rideshare insurance from Progressive. Simply add rideshare coverage to your personal auto insurance policy so you're protected as soon as you start working. If an accident occurs while you're waiting to receive a ride request, your rideshare coverage can protect you if you're liable for injuries or damages as well as pay to repair or replace your own damaged vehicle.
Am I required to add rideshare insurance to my Progressive policy?
Progressive requires you to add rideshare insurance coverage to your personal auto policy if you're driving for a rideshare company. By adding rideshare coverage, you can gain protection beyond what's provided by your ridesharing company's insurance policy.
Transportation Network Provider (TNC) coverage vs. Progressive rideshare endorsement
Your TNC is generally mandated by state law to provide insurance coverage for their drivers. However, you may not be as protected as you think with your rideshare company's insurance policy. TNCs may not cover you while you're waiting for a rider, and your personal auto policy may not either — unless you add a separate rideshare endorsement.
Any insurance offered through your ridesharing company's insurance policy may offer liability protection while you're waiting to match with a rider, but you're typically on the hook for any physical damage to your car. With Progressive rideshare coverage, your personal auto policy's comprehensive and collision coverage will apply during this phase of a trip in case your vehicle is damaged in a covered incident.
The chart below shows which coverages may be provided by the TNC and which Progressive coverages may apply during the two main stages of a trip:
Coverages while you're online | Waiting to match with a rider | Trip accepted & transporting rider |
---|---|---|
Bodily injury & property damage liability | Progressive/TNC* | TNC |
Comprehensive | Progressive** | TNC† |
Collision | Progressive** | TNC† |
Uninsured/underinsured motorist | Progressive** | TNC† |
Personal injury protection/medical payments | Progressive** | — |
Roadside assistance and trip interruption†† | Progressive** | Progressive** |
Rental car reimbursement | Progressive** | Progressive** |
*While waiting for a pickup request, primary liability coverage is typically provided by your personal auto policy with the rideshare add-on. Additional liability coverage may be provided by the TNC.
**These coverages only apply if you carry them on your personal auto policy. Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage and personal injury protection/medical payments coverages only apply to the driver and not to any guest passengers while waiting to match with a rider.
†These coverages may be contingent on whether you also carry them on your personal auto policy.
††Trip interruption, in states where available, only applies when a driver's vehicle breaks down more than 100 miles from their primary residence.

Why choose Progressive for rideshare insurance?
When you add rideshare coverage to your Progressive auto policy, you get greater convenience and peace of mind. Here are just some of the things that make us stand out:
- One policy, one payment: You can fill your ridesharing coverage gaps and still be covered for personal driving, all under one insurance policy.
- Extended coverages: Drive easily knowing your coverages apply while logged in and waiting for passengers.
- Deductible reimbursement: We'll reimburse you for the difference between the ridesharing company's insurance deductible and the deductible on your personal policy. So, if the policy provided by the ridesharing company has a $1,000 deductible, and you have a $500 deductible, we'll pay you $500.
